Sharing to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and via email

POSTED IN: My DTL blog: Chris' blog

We've now added the ability to share blog and blog posts via Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit and Twitter -- anybody can share a post they are interested in, not just the author.  We've also added meta-data to blogs that will help surface the right information on LinkedIn and Facebook, including the right thumbnail image.  We've also reworked the blog UI to make it cleaner, including the incorporation of the new sharing buttons.

Also new:  going forward, you'll be able to see for your blogs (under "author details") where your traffic is coming from, because we give you the top 5 "referrers".  The referrer is just the site that 'referred' the user to your blog.  So if the users follow a link on facebook to get to you blog, it will record facebook as a referrer.  The same goes for linkedin, twitter and so on.  This will help you to know where most of your users are coming from.  We're also recording this same information for documents, although it isn't exposed in the UI yet.

We only record the domain of the referrer (so "facebook.com"), not any identifying information about who it came from, the query parameters, etc.
