Christopher de Marigny

This week, Isabelle and I drove down to Montpellier, to visit with a friend who is in France advising a company building articulated, ergonomic backrests for wheelchairs. The company is Evom, and Evom's founder is Christopher de Marigny, pictured here. Christopher is an inspiring guy -- when he was in his twenties, a swimming accident left him a quadriplegic (later a paraplegic). He went back to school and finished his master's in robotics, and is now working on a series of products to increase comfort and mobility for people in wheelchairs.  They plan to extend their patented backrest to office chairs for able-bodied people .  I've put myself down for one of them when they're available -- the backrest felt great when I sat in it.  Christopher and Emilie were terrific hosts, and spending time with Christopher has given me a renewed appreciation for what it means to be passionately committed.

Look for much more from Christopher and his company in the coming months.  They're working on an updated website, and are considering a kickstarter campaign sometime in 2014.  At the moment, the production operation is in Christopher's basement, and includes a 3-D printer and some machine tools.

His website is: http://www.evom.eu
