I haven't posted on the pond in a while -- progress over the summer was slow as we dealt with a series of leaks. But as of last weekend, the pond now has 70 trout -- 50 of them in the 10-12" range, and 20 of them in the 15-16" range. It's hard to say for sure, but the biggest fish has to weigh 3 pounds.
The fish were delivered by Randy Bentz, the manager of Blue Den Ranch in Scio, Oregon. He can carry up to 500 pounds of fish in the tanks on his truck. His rig includes oxygen tanks to keep the water comfortable for the trout.
Here's a short video of the fish getting released into the pond:
The trout have been surprising hard to catch. They devour the fish food when it's thrown in (I'm using Purina Aquamax 500) - the water boils with fish, and some jump clear out of the water. But as soon as they see a lure, a line, or someone moving around, they retreat, and won't even eat the normal fish food.
Here's a picture of Joshua, Bryce, Ciri and Rebecca fishing, or trying to fish:
I finally caught one fish yesterday, using a floating artificial egg -- one of the fish gulped it down in the feeding frenzy for their usual fish food.
